A Birthday Party

The girls first birthday party was a blast.  I love parties so I wanted their first to be special.  I decided on a tea party theme thanks to ideas from friends and I think this was the perfect 1st birthday.  I have been very busy preparing for the party.  With help from some neighborhood friends I made them each a birthday hat, banner with their names, happy birthday banner, and tulle skirts for their highchairs.  Scott was very helpful with the little pom-pom decorations and the food.  He prepared all of the fruit and even did a watermelon carving of a teapot which was very cute.  With Scott's mom's help, my mom's help, and friends we made all of the sweets for the dessert table which was done in shades of pink, I think it turned out very cute.   We also did a banner with photos and captions from my blog for each month.  The highlight of the event was probably our cake which was a gift from the girls friend Jack (and his parents of course), the cake and smash cakes were made by a lady in our neighborhood and she did a fantastic job.  Below are some pictures of the event:

I told Scott that I felt like it was a surprise party because the girls didn't even know they were having a party, I did most of the planning and baking after they went to bed and since the party was at our clubhouse all the decorations were there, so it was a surprise for them.  The birthday girls were a little late arriving because they were all still napping when the party time arrived (see I told you it was like a surprise).  They were very unsure of everything when we entered and Savannah was very clingy for the first part.  We played some games with the other kids at the party and even had a game for the adults where they had to identify 24 pictures and write down which baby was which.  Stephanie and our friend Kelly (Jack's mom) tied both getting 23 pictures correct.

We sang happy birthday to each girl and gave them their smash cake, Emma was first and she very daintily picked at her cake, she ate some frosting and then pinched off little pieces of cake to eat, she was very lady like.  Olivia wanted to eat the teacup that was made out of fondant and when I took it away she was not happy, she soon figured out that icing tasted good too, she stuck her fingers in the cake and proceeded to lick them off, she had a messy face at the end.  Savannah was not bashful about the cake, she apparently received the memo that it was a smash cake and she really smashed it up.  Here are some cute pictures of them 'eating' their cakes.

The girls also got lots of gifts: books, clothes, toys, a play tea set, a real tea set (for later of course), a water table, Madame Alexander dolls, super cute piggy banks, pj's, etc.  Here are pictures of the girls opening their gifts, they got the hang of this pretty fast by Christmas they will be experts.

Thank you to our family and close friends who came to celebrate with us!
