The Lake

The girls did well last night, they slept in the trailer with Grammy and Pepe and that seemed to work out well.  We brought a baby monitor so we could leave them alone during naps and in the early evening, but we didn't want them out there alone too much.  Grammy and Pepe took them out and tucked them in and waited until they feel asleep and then came in and got ready for bed and went back out.  I am surprised that it was that easy, I hope the rest of the nights go smoothly as well.

The girls were able to play with the many toys that Grammy has at her house this morning and we also took them down to see the famous 'fish' room.  They loved making the fish 'swim' and every time we went down they wanted to swim with the fish...all of us have tired arms.

This afternoon we were invited to visit Scott's old neighbors at their beautiful new lake house.  We had very nice weather and the girls had their first boat ride.  Grammy was again prepared and had borrowed 3 little life vests for them.  I think they had a good time riding on the boat.

After the boat ride they played in the sand and they really enjoyed that.  Kylie and Hunter swam in the lake, but the girls weren't very thrilled about getting in the water and I was fine with that. See I'm the type that likes to be able to see the bottom and I don't like the way the gooey lake floor feels so I wasn't exactly wanting to wade in after them.

We had a good dinner after all the fun, but the girls were getting tired fast so we had to get them home after dinner.  They are already a little off schedule which makes it hard to know if they are hungry or tired and they can talk and tell us but for some reason they prefer to cry and be clingy.  At least after eating we knew they were just tired, so we took our 3 tired kids back to Scott's parents for a bath and some snuggle time.

Scott and I put the girls down and it was a little tougher tonight than last night.  I think it is because they wanted to be held by us.  We don't want to leave them in the trailer until they are asleep so having us sit there was difficult.  They all wanted us to hold them and rock them which we gave in and did, but it took an hour for us to get them to sleep.

An Airplane Ride

Today the girls took their first airplane ride from Charlotte to Boston.  Scott and I and his parents have been very busy planning for this trip.  Scott's parents were able to borrow a lot of the essentials that we needed for our stay such as 3 highcharis, 3 carseats, 3 pack n plays.  They also stocked up on the essentials such as diapers, wipes, food, milk, etc. Then Scott's mom came down a day early to fly to Boston with us so we would have one person for each baby.  Having the extra help was crucial to a successful flight.  We arrived around 10 pm for our 12 pm flight and the airport was not busy so we had time to check-in and watch the planes for a while.  The girls had fun running around the airport, here are a few pics and a video.

After boarding we were delayed about 30 minutes and had to wait on the runway, I was holding Olivia and she fell asleep in my arms before we even left the ground, I was kind of sad not to see her reaction on the take-off.  The other two were awake until after take-off, but they both fell asleep pretty soon after.  They all woke up before we landed so I got to see Olivia's reaction to landing which was fun, they were all eagerly looking out the window and sometimes squealing.

After landing we picked up our luggage and made our way to the truck that Dick had left when he dropped off Lynn.  We had some difficulties adjusting the carseats so we were a little late getting out of the parking garage, apparently you only have 20 minutes, but we had paid for 2 days of parking so it shouldn't have been an issue.  That put a damper on things because they wanted us to pay more, we finally got a manger to talk to us and she admitted it was their fault though the guy had been a complete jerk to us.  So then we headed to Dick's office since it was close by and we got to see his building which had huge fish inside.  They also got to see Sparky the fire dog statue.  Here is a picture of them looking at the fish and hugging sparky.

We then headed off to see Mem for dinner, it took about another hour and half to get there, but the girls were good, or so we heard.  Scott and I got some alone time driving the car while his parents drove the truck with the girls.  We had a nice dinner with Mem and the girls enjoyed running up and down her hallway which is an old furniture factory and very very long.  The girls also got a surprise from Scott's sister Shell who stopped by with Kylie to meet the girls.  The girls really warmed up to Kylie fast and they all played together well.

So it was a long day, but it went pretty smoothly.

Springmaid 2011

Every year my mom's extended family does a weekend get together in the mountains of NC.  Last year we took the girls but did not spend the night.  This year we decided to spend the night with the girls, we had originally thought of leaving on Saturday morning so it would be just one night, but Scott persuaded me to take them on Friday night so they would have more time in the mountains.  The trip there was pretty good but we did have to stop three times, once for Savannah, once for Olivia, and once to eat.  When we got there around 8pm the girls were excited to run around the big cabin/bunk house we all stay in.

We had bought peapod tents for them to sleep in because we could zip them closed and they wouldn't be able to wander around.  We all have little rooms upstairs in the bunkhouse so we didn't want them getting out and coming downstairs without us knowing.  We had introduced the tents a few times before going but couldn't get anyone but Olivia to sleep in the tent.  We tried again the first night and it was a disaster.  We finally gave up on the tents and put the mattress from the top bunk on the floor so that they could sleep on the bottom bunk or the mattress on the floor.  We then rearranged the furniture so they couldn't climb anything and we proceeded to lay with them for over an hour until they fell asleep.  We started the process around 9:30 and by 11 pm we finally had sleeping babies.  Scott and I then got settled into our room and got in bed at midnight.  We had just laid down when we heard a baby scream so up we went to their room and found Emma screaming, so I rocked her and comforted her, but by this time she had woke up Olivia who also started screaming.  We had the hardest time getting them back to sleep and finally Scott slept in the girl's room with Olivia and Savannah and I slept with Emma in our room.  Neither Emma nor I slept well that night so it made for a rough start to our weekend.

We took the girls down to see the horses in the morning and they were so excited to pet them.  We decided to let them ride a horse and Emma absolutely loved it she was beaming.  Savannah definitely seemed to like it but was very serious about her ride, we got a few smiles but mostly she was serious.  Olivia tolerated it and seemed to have a little fun at first, but she didn't want a long ride.  The horse riding seemed to be the highlight of the day so we paid for another ride on Sunday and Emma and Savannah enjoyed that but Olivia was not interested; I think she was just tired and teething.  Here are some pictures and video of the horse ride.

The girls really enjoyed all the space to run around in the bunkhouse and they had lots of little cousins to play with.  Everyone took turns riding in the choo-choo wagon and pulling the wagon.  There were lots of other toys and we even had a small swimming pool for everyone to play in.  That night after s'mores the girls went to bed and did much better, it took us about an hour of laying with them to get them to sleep but after that they slept through the night.  Here is a picture of them sleeping.  They are actually in order here, Emma is closest, then Olivia, and Savannah.

Happy Father's Day

I think Scott had a nice Father's Day with the girls.  Olivia and Savannah slept in until 8:30 which was nice, poor Scott is on pager duty and got a page at 8 so it was nice to have them sleep in while he worked.  Emma had stayed the night at Nana's so we only had 2 babies to get ready for church.  We got them up and dressed so we could get to the early service at church.  The sermon was nice and geared toward guys, but I was disappointed that they didn't have any cupcakes for the dads like they had done for the moms.  After church we went by and got the bbq for lunch and headed to my parents.  We ate and then the girls were so tired we went ahead and put them down for naps.  Daddy took Olivia upstairs and they slept together and I put down Savannah and Emma, they both also slept on big beds surrounded by pillows and I think they really enjoyed that.

After the naps we had ice cream sundaes and then we let the girls swim and play on the deck.  Emma decided to put on daddy's socks, she looked like a soccer player with knee pads.  While we were taking her picture her dad flipped the camera so she could see herself and it was so funny she started making funny faces and we were able to get a picture of her being silly.

For dinner we had some shrimp and steak stir-fry, I had planned on cooking at home but since the girls had slept so long we decided to stay.  We made it home in time to brush teeth and read books and then we put the girls down.  They were good today which helped make it a nice Father's Day.

A Baby

The girls have never actually seen a real newborn baby before.  They are very interested in their baby dolls though, and are learning to stroll, feed, burp, and rock their babies.  However they are not gentle at all and often the babies get thrown around or 'fall down' a little too hard.  So I was a little nervous having them meet our neighbor's new 3 week old baby boy.  They did not seem to mind if I held the baby and would come look occasionally and point at him and say 'baby' 'baby'.

I was surprised that it was Savannah who showed the most interest in the baby.  She was even allowed to hold the baby in her lap, she was very happy and really liked the new baby.  She was very gentle too.

Look how sweet she is holding that cute little boy.

NICU Reunion

On Saturday, we attended our second annual NICU reunion at the hospital where the girls stayed during their 'feeding and growing' period.  We spent several weeks with the nurses and doctors at this NICU and it is always nice to see them.  The nurses get to see how big all of the babies have gotten that were once so itty bitty.  We are the only triplets that have ever been in this NICU so we are easily recognizable.  They had a carnival theme with lots of activites for the kids, though ours were still a little young for some activities they were able to enjoy many others like the pop-corn, cotton candy, and snow cones.

Here are a few pictures from the event..
