Springmaid 2011

Every year my mom's extended family does a weekend get together in the mountains of NC.  Last year we took the girls but did not spend the night.  This year we decided to spend the night with the girls, we had originally thought of leaving on Saturday morning so it would be just one night, but Scott persuaded me to take them on Friday night so they would have more time in the mountains.  The trip there was pretty good but we did have to stop three times, once for Savannah, once for Olivia, and once to eat.  When we got there around 8pm the girls were excited to run around the big cabin/bunk house we all stay in.

We had bought peapod tents for them to sleep in because we could zip them closed and they wouldn't be able to wander around.  We all have little rooms upstairs in the bunkhouse so we didn't want them getting out and coming downstairs without us knowing.  We had introduced the tents a few times before going but couldn't get anyone but Olivia to sleep in the tent.  We tried again the first night and it was a disaster.  We finally gave up on the tents and put the mattress from the top bunk on the floor so that they could sleep on the bottom bunk or the mattress on the floor.  We then rearranged the furniture so they couldn't climb anything and we proceeded to lay with them for over an hour until they fell asleep.  We started the process around 9:30 and by 11 pm we finally had sleeping babies.  Scott and I then got settled into our room and got in bed at midnight.  We had just laid down when we heard a baby scream so up we went to their room and found Emma screaming, so I rocked her and comforted her, but by this time she had woke up Olivia who also started screaming.  We had the hardest time getting them back to sleep and finally Scott slept in the girl's room with Olivia and Savannah and I slept with Emma in our room.  Neither Emma nor I slept well that night so it made for a rough start to our weekend.

We took the girls down to see the horses in the morning and they were so excited to pet them.  We decided to let them ride a horse and Emma absolutely loved it she was beaming.  Savannah definitely seemed to like it but was very serious about her ride, we got a few smiles but mostly she was serious.  Olivia tolerated it and seemed to have a little fun at first, but she didn't want a long ride.  The horse riding seemed to be the highlight of the day so we paid for another ride on Sunday and Emma and Savannah enjoyed that but Olivia was not interested; I think she was just tired and teething.  Here are some pictures and video of the horse ride.

The girls really enjoyed all the space to run around in the bunkhouse and they had lots of little cousins to play with.  Everyone took turns riding in the choo-choo wagon and pulling the wagon.  There were lots of other toys and we even had a small swimming pool for everyone to play in.  That night after s'mores the girls went to bed and did much better, it took us about an hour of laying with them to get them to sleep but after that they slept through the night.  Here is a picture of them sleeping.  They are actually in order here, Emma is closest, then Olivia, and Savannah.
