January 24th - Happy 6 months
The girls are 6 months old today, it has been both a long and short 6 months. It feels like a long time because when you take care of 3 infants for 6 months even with some help we feel exhausted all the time. But on the other hand, we can't believe it has been that long because it has been so much fun and we can't believe how much different it is now than a few months ago.
I think the thing we enjoy best about where the girls are at now is watching them interact with us and each other. We love to make them laugh and smile. Last night all three of them were laughing at some point and it was so sweet to just spend time with them and watch them giggle at the funny faces and noises Scott and I made at them.
Another good thing about this age is that a lot of the crying has stopped. I remember at around 6-8 weeks I read in a book that babies cry about 1-4 hours a day, when you multiply 4 times 3 that is 12 hours and it REALLY felt like there was a baby crying all day long. Now they usually cry for a reason and we can tell what they want when they cry. Olivia was our fussiest baby for the first 3-4 months, but now Emma has stepped in . We are hoping it is just because of her reflux though we think she may just be our lap baby (in some ways we do like that she wants to be held, I hope she will continue to be a cuddler).
Here are some pictures I took down at my mom's house this weekend:

This is what it took to try to get them to look, we could hardly accomplish that no less try to make them smile or laugh
Here are the girls with their cousins, yes that is 7 kids all ages 3 and under.

Olivia laughing
Scott is now staying home with the girls full-time while he searches for a new job. He loves the girls but isn't sure that daddy daycare is his calling in life, though I think he is doing great. Last night we got a cute video clip of Olivia laughing.

Savannah Rolls Ahead
Well little Miss Savannah sure is full of suprises. She was lying on the floor on her back just being content like always and I saw her roll onto her side which she and Olivia are pretty good at doing these days, but then I looked back and she was on her tummy. So now Savannah who was the smallest and behind her sisters in development for a few months has now surpassed them. She is the only one was has rolled onto her tummy, she is going to be on the go soon, please pray for us!
Also today we had some guests visiting from Fayetteville, Lisa and David (Lisa was my friend from Campbell and Lisa's brother David was Scott's friend they are ultimately responsible for Scott and I meeting in 1999, though we had no interest in each other for the first 3-4 years). They had come up with their two neices to see the girls, here is a picture of Lisa holding the girls.

1 toothie, 2 toothie, 3 toothie
Tonight we made a discovery, Emma has a tooth! I was holding her and she was gumming her hands so I was going to let her gum my finger for a while, but then when I got my finger in there I felt something sharp. It was a tooth, she had one on the bottom it was her left central incisor. Scott came over with a flashlight and we could even see it. He then went to go check Olivia but she did not have one on the bottom like Emma. He decided that Savannah probably did not have one either because she has not been fussy like the other two. Later that evening when they were eating their food Scott exclaims, "Savannah has a tooth also". It was the exact same one that Emma had, except Savannah's was out even further. We still didn't see anything on Olivia's bottom gums. After they ate we gave Savannah her bottle and I breastfeed Emma (yes it is scary knowing she has a tooth) and Olivia. I ran my finger along Olivia's gums and I couldn't feel any teeth even starting on the bottom, but then I ran my finger along the top and she had one on the top! I had heard that they usually get the bottom teeth first so I had not thought to check the top. So all three of them now have little teeth it is cute.

Welcome Home Olivia
Olivia is doing much better, she got a little worse while she was in the hospital but she is headed in the right direction now. Scott called me this morning and told me they would be releasing her this afternoon. My mom had been up the previous night to help so she and I got the other girls feed then we ate some lunch and I headed to the grocery store since we had not been yet this decade (ha ha, our cupboards really were that bare). I still had not heard from Scott to say that they were headed home but I was hoping to see his car in the driveway when I got back, no such luck.
I took the groceries in and my mom was pretty proud that she had 'all' the babies sleeping. I was like ok that's great (I knew one was asleep before I left so good job mom on getting one baby to sleep). I then saw that she had put her in a car seat, why would she go to all that trouble. I then saw it was Olivia! She had surprised me, it was so cute she was sleeping so peaceful. Scott had apparently run over to pick up her medicine for her ear infection but had wanted to drop her off so she could surprise me, how cute!

A Small Bright Spot from Savannah
Last night Scott spent the night with Olivia, the doctors have told us that the average hospital stay for RSV is 3.5 days so we are expecting her to be in there through the weekend. My mom went to sit with her today for a few hours so Scott and I could regroup here at the house.
I was spending a little time with Emma and Savannah and had put them on their bellies for some 'tummy time'. As soon as I had laid Savannah down on her belly she flipped over onto her back, I yelled for Scott, and luckily he had just happened to be walking by and he saw it. We were both excited at her new trick. We flipped her back over and she did it again, and again, and again. We were able to video tape her flipping since she did it 5 times for us. It was so cute, I think she was pretty proud of her new accomplishment.

Our Not So Happy New Year
So we have had some major changes over the last 48 hours, and none of them have been good. 2010 has not started off well for us.
1: Scott lost his job
2: Olivia was admitted to the hospital
3: Scott's grandfather passed away
The first thing that happened was that Scott lost his job his last day of work was yesterday 12/31. He is looking for another job, but the market isn't great. If anyone has any recommendations or knows of any positions I'd be happy to pass along his resume.
Yesterday I woke up got ready and took Olivia downstairs so the nanny could feed her, but on the way I noticed she was having some labored breathing. The nanny started feeding her while I called in to work to say I would be late at best. While Olivia was eating she got choked up a bit and was really struggling her lips turned blue and her color was not good. I was able to get her cleared up and her color returned. I called the doctors and we went immediately, of course I could not leave her alone in the car so we had to pack up everyone so the nanny could watch Olivia as we drove. We got to the doctor's around 9am, the doctor took one look at her and said RSV. He did the test and it was positive, they tried to do a breathing treatment but it did not help enough so they sent her to the hospital. I drove home dropped off the other two and the nanny (by this time Scott had come home from work) picked up Scott packed some stuff for everyone and headed out. We got to the hospital around 12 noon. She did not have to have an IV or anything like that but she is getting some oxygen to help her breathe, she is just struggling and working so hard that this will give her some relief. She has been in good spirits but is tired from laboring so much. Scott spent the night with her last night and I came home to take care of the other two. Of course all of our insurance premiums and dedictubles that we meet with their birth cover her through 12/31 yesterday. But starting today we have to pay it all over again, which is very frustrating knowing our income is now cut in half. My mom came up last night to help and has been great. The other girls are doing well, but their is a high possibility that they can catch the RSV as it is highly contangious. If you would like more information on RSV please click here.
Yesterday morning during all of this chaos Scott's parents called to say that his grandfather was not doing well. His grandfather's health has been poor for a while now and has hung in there longer than they expected, but it is still very hard to hear that things are getting worse. He was surrounded by family when he passed away this morning at a little before 1am, he made the New Year but not by much.
Please keep us in your prayers and we go through this difficult time.
