Merry Christmas 2015

The Candy Fairy

A few weeks ago I was informed by Emma that there was a candy fairy that came at night and left candy for you under your pillow if you were good.  I told her I had never heard of that and I was pretty sure the candy fairy didn’t come to our house.  A few hours later at bedtime she encouraged me to check under my pillow to see if the candy fairy had come and what do you know I had a small twix bar under my pillow.  Olivia and Savannah then went running to check their pillows and were pretty disappointed that they did not have anything.  Scott must not have been good enough either he did not get candy.  Since then about once a week very randomly the candy fairy comes to visit and everyone gets a piece of candy under their pillow it is usually our favorite kind.  Emma always seems to know when she has come I’m thinking she has an inside connection to this candy fairy.

Thanksgiving

It was our year to have Scott’s parents down for Thanksgiving.  They came on Monday night and my mom, lynn, and I did some Christmas crafting on Tuesday since it was my day off.  Wednesday the girls only had half a day so Lynn and Dick went and picked them up and played some games until I got home and Scott was off work.  Thursday we woke up and watched the parade on TV in our pjs until about 11 then we headed down to my mom’s house for Thanksgiving lunch.  We had a big crowd and nice weather for Thanksgiving, we at all the usual things and a few new things.  The kids were not very interested in eating and were much more concerned about playing outside.  They all got along well and spent most of the day outside which was a welcome break allowing us grown-ups to socialize.

After lunch we headed to a few stores and took turns staying in the car with the girls.  We made stops at Kohls, Best Buy and Michaels.  After we got home Scott and his mom went back out to hit a few stores.  I volunteered to stay home the next morning with the girls I didn’t need anything at 5am.  So Scott and his parents went shopping to several places and were back home around 9am.  Later after lunch Lynn, Scott and I headed out to a few more stores but didn’t really buy much.

On Saturday we had a big traditional Thanksgiving dinner at our house complete with a Turducken Scott had prepared.  I made a cheesecake and sweet potato casserole and we had some baby potatoes, greenbeans, stuffing, rolls, and cranberry sauce.  It was a great meal and we had a nice time eating together.  On Sunday it was about 72 degrees and sunny so we all went for a walk and put up Christmas lights outside.  Now it is time to get ready for Christmas it sure comes fast.

Girls age 6

Emma – She is very loving and sweet she constantly makes me "I love you" notes and puts them under my pillow or on my bed or other places I will find them.

Emma is very stubborn and picky though so if things don't go exactly her way she can have quiet the dramatic meltdown. These can be pretty frustrating and funny at the same time.  This morning she didn't like the shirt she picked out and when she put it on she started crying and saying she looked like an old lady.

Emma has a great memory and can remember things easily.  Her teachers have noticed too, sometimes you don't even know she was listening.  Emma has some crazy good upper body strength and is doing well at gymnastics.

She is usually a good eater and will try most things, but she does not like Chinese food just the smell of it makes her hold her nose.  For a small girl she has a great appetite and probably eats the most on a day-to-day basis but you can't tell it from her petite figure.

Olivia - Olivia is a silly girl and has developed into a bit of a tom-boy which makes her daddy happy. She loves to wear her superman shirt and red sox shirt to match daddy.  She is into Star Wars and likes to play the lego star wars video game with her dad.

Olivia plays well with her sisters and is easy to get along with.  She doesn't mind playing barbies as long as she gets to be the boy barbie.

Olivia is very thoughtful and will often give into her sisters requests. She is currently sleeping on the top bunk of the bed because she said she wants to sleep alone, but occasionally she will ask Savannah to sleep with her.

Olivia has lost the most teeth and over the summer lost 3 within weeks of each other so she we tease her and call her jack-o-lantern with all of those teeth missing in front.

Olivia is a pretty good eater she loves Chinese food most.  She probably eats the least of the three of the three girls.

Savannah - She has a mature spirit and some serious determination. She saw a bike at GoodWill that she wanted it didn't have training wheels on it and so Scott told her she could not ride it.  She argued with him and told him that she could ride a bike without training wheels.  He took off her training wheels when we got home and refused to help her by holding the seat (since she said she could do it by herself).  She took off across the grass and rode her bike without falling and that was that, she rode it the rest of the day without falling.

Savannah seems mature for her age and you can have conversations with her easily.  She has an opinion now about what she wears and sometimes tells me that she doesn't like certain things.  For a while she didn't like things with ruffles but now she likes some things with ruffles.  I have to check with her on some outfits before I buy them now.

Savannah is still a snuggler and likes me to rock her at night and sing her songs she sometimes won't let me leave and keeps hugging me until I lay down with her.

Savannah loves Chinese food and quesadillas she can eat 2 big ones when she is hungry.  She can be a pretty picky eater but has a sweet tooth so will usually finish her dinner even if she doesn't want it so she can have her 2 oreo cookies.

Tweetsie

My parents invited the girls (and Scott and I) to Tweetsie railroad this summer.  They had been last summer with Stephanie's family and had a good time so we got to go this year. Growing up I had been to Tweetsie several times and had fond memories of the place. The train sticks out in my memory the most because they usually had something happen on the train ride like Indians come out of the woods or a cowboy would come rob the train, etc.

We went on a Thursday (yesterday 6/18) and it was not very crowded so we got to do about everything there.  I recognized the horses out front and the girls each wanted to climb on them.  I remember a picture of my sisters and I sitting on one of these horses when we were young.

First we rode the chair lift up to the top and the girls were intrigued with the magic show we saw there.  We then feed and petted the animals in the feeding zoo, I was surprised at how many animals they had there.  The baby goats were the girls favorite.

We rode some rides and then came back toward the train to see some shows and ride the train.  We saw some joggers perform and a cabaret type show which the girls liked they even got to meet the dancers afterwards. We had some lunch and then rode the train, it was fun and not scary like I remembered.  They had a show with cowboys and Indians it had some gun shots and explosions but the girls didn’t seem to get scared.

We spent the rest of the afternoon riding rides, Scott rode with the girls for a while and then they rode some rides by themselves.  It rained a little bit so after the rain they had the park almost to themselves and rode all they wanted to until time to go. I think everyone had a good time.

Atlanta Trip

We love to go to Atlanta and see Dot-Dot and Paw-Paw Dick each spring.  They are my great aunt and uncle.  Dick is my grandmother's brother and we just have such fun visiting their farm just north of Atlanta.  We had missed last year due to some crazy schedules but we were sure to get down there this year over spring break.

We left Wednesday night and our first stop was at my friend Kathy's she is an old neighbor and great craft guru.  We stayed there Wednesday night and just hung out and did a little bit of shopping in the morning before heading out to Dot and Dick's.

This trip was very laid back we just hung around the house but there was plenty to do.  Dot-Dot had turned her sewing room into a little craft area for the girls with paper, crayons, glue and glitter.  The girls called it their craft room and would work in there for hours.  We also spent time seeing the flower and vegetable gardens, riding on Dick's tractors, playing games, and feeding the horses and goats,  We were spoiled with wonderful home made (mostly even from the garden) meals.

On our last night we were invited to a campfire at the 'big girls' house.  Samantha and Courtney and their mother Nancy are Dot and Dick's adopted Atlanta family. They really have grown into big girls now and Samantha is even headed to college this fall.  After dinner the big girls showed us their hammocks which were really neat,  we all played in those for about an hour.  When it started to get dark we had a campfire with so-mores.

We went to church on Sunday and then had yet another home cooked meal before heading back to Charlotte.  It was a very nice trip as always.
