Kindergarten Day 2

Today was the first full day of school for the girls.  They went on Thursday then received their teacher assignments on Friday, we got Ms. Sherry.  The girls were excited to go to school again today they had been asking to go since last week and of course Monday was a holiday so they were anxious to go back.  We have to get them up around 7:20 which is about an hour earlier than preschool but they did well today, mostly because I think they were excited.  We walked them to their class and they did great they all sat at a table and started to color right away.  There wasn’t much for goodbyes except some waving and a kiss from Savannah.  I am happy they adapt so easily and seem well-adjusted but my heart was still heavy.  I only cried a few tears after leaving but the sadness just didn’t seem to go away.  Since I don’t work on Tuesdays it was my first full day alone in the house in I guess forever, it seemed awfully quite.  I got some chores done, went for a run with scott, and had a little nap.  It was a nice day and I’m sure I will enjoy it soon but right now my heart is just a little sad.  We picked them up and they were a little more grouchy today with everyone trying to talk at the same time.  We did find out that they played on the playground and had lunch and Olivia said they also painted.  Everyone agreed it was a good day and that they wanted to go back the next day.

Now to answer a common question: Why did we chose to put the girls in the same class?
We chose to keep them in the same class for several reasons, 1) They are very independent and do not rely on each other for things, they had different friends in preschool and we hope they will continue to grow in their individuality here too.   2) It is a big change and I think knowing that they have each other makes it easier.  3) Another big factor is that it will be easier for us as parents to have everyone on the same schedule doing the same homework and activities.

First Day of Kindergarten

I have been looking forward to and also dreading the first day of kindergarten.  Several times over the summer I have said to Scott that I think they need another year of preschool.  He knows what is really going on though and says, “you know they are ready even if you are not”.  So the truth is that they have grown up and I am not ready to accept that I have school-aged children.  In preschool I could at least pretend that they were still my babies but now the reality of school makes me face the truth.  Their first day of school was a half day on Thursday 28th, they had to be there at 12:30 and would stay until the end of school at 3:30.  The timing worked  out well as I knew they would get to sleep in and I would still be able get pictures of them before they left.  Scott and I both went and walked them in, we signed them in at the table and then one of the assistants walked them down the hall to a classroom.  Watching those little girls with big backpacks walk away from me was very overwhelming.  I could hardly get out of the school fast enough before the tears were flowing.  I figured I would cry on the first day but I was totally unprepared for how heart-broken I felt.  Scott picked on me which wasn’t helpful but even he admitted to feeling a bit sad.  He took some time to run errands with me so I could keep busy and not just go lie in bed and cry for three hours which is what I wanted to do.  At 3:30 we went to pick them up and were scared we were in the wrong place because the carpool line was empty.  The teachers assured us it was just a fluke and that it would not be that way the next time (they were right about that).  So we picked up three happy little girls who were so excited to tell us about their day.  All we really got out of the day was that they got to play soccer outside and that Emma stole Savannah’s friend but that Olivia played with Savannah when she was sad.

Easter

Easter was such fun this year, we did several Easter egg hunts before Easter and then we did 2 on Easter.  The girls were very excited about Easter and having the bunny come leave them eggs and presents.  They also really understand what Easter was about, we have a great church and preschool that really helps with this.  Emma kept saying, "the rock rolled away and He was ALIVE" (she would even jump up and down when she yelled 'alive').

The girls got lots of goodies from the Easter bunny including little bags with garden tools in them to help daddy in the garden.  They also got princess shoes and a dress and all kinds of toys.  Each got a little plush animal puppet that makes it's sound when you move the mouth.  Savannah really enjoyed playing with her puppet.

Girls age 5

Emma – At age 5 Emma is still the most outgoing and friendly girl, she still makes friends everywhere she goes.  She is still working on her speech but we can understand her almost 100% of the time now.  Emma is very loving she gives hugs and kisses with such passion and so often, I just love all of her hugs.  She knows she is the oldest and will tell people she is the oldest but that she is the smallest.  She doesn’t want to be the smallest because she can’t ride in a booster seat at Nana’s house.  Emma is very emotional and dramatic and still has break downs over the smallest things.  Emma loves to eat popping cereal and will ask for it multiple times.  One of my favorite things about Emma is her story-telling, she remembers stories very well usually they are bible stories but sometimes are stories from tv or a book.  It is so cute to hear her tell a story and you can see her thinking about what is next as she slowly recalls it.  Just recently she has started singing songs which is so cute.

Olivia – At age 5 Olivia has come out of her shell quite a bit and has become a little more demanding and less easy-going than she was a year ago.  She is the peace-maker and the first to give into her sisters if they want something like a specific color cup or dress.  Olivia is the tallest of her sisters and is proud of it.  She does not care for dresses or playing dress up but she will play with her sisters and be the boy or the prince.  Just the other day I overheard them playing and apparently Emma was marrying Olivia and Savannah was organizing the event.  Olivia loves her monkey dress and shirt and anything with her initial on it. Olivia is still shy but also very playful and has the best, most genuine laugh.  I love to make her laugh so I can hear it.  At night Olivia loves to have her belly rubbed and will often lift up her shirt and put my hand on her belly so I get the ‘hint’.  She still gives me ‘all the kisses’ at night which she does in a very organized way.  She is very organized and particular about her things, just last night she organized her pj drawer and then I heard her sternly tell her sisters not to mess it up.  She also loves to find or earn money, often she will help me with chores so she can get a quarter.  Olivia was the first to lose a tooth (bottom-left) , she was upset by the blood but very excited that it was out.

Savannah – Savannah is the most adventurous and confident, she is willing to try new things and is very determined to do well.  She was the best at ice skating because she wasn’t afraid to fall and had a spirit of determination about her.  Savannah is very girly, she loves to dress up and even if we are staying around the house wants to wear a dress (a fancy one).  Savannah is the boss when at home, she can sometimes be a bit rude and harsh with her sisters.  Savannah is a mommy’s girl and is very affectionate before I can leave I have to make sure I give her at least 10 hugs and kisses.  She loves to sing and dance and has recently started putting shows on for us.  She also likes to do my hair which I do love, sometimes all of them will help and I just savor having all those little hands working on my hair.  Savannah loves waffles and pancakes probably because of the syrup she gets on them and the cool whip.

Last week of preschool

Yesterday was our last day of preschool, maybe it would have been sad if it had not been so busy.  First of all Scott is out of town on business this week and I have a very busy work week.  Not to mention the girls got sick over the weekend and are taking turns feeling bad and running fevers.

Here is a quick breakdown of our week.

Monday we kept Olivia home and Scott took her to the doctor to make sure the fever wasn't from something more serious.  The doctor said she likely just had a small bug and seemed fine.  Turns out the doctor was right because on Tuesday I had to go get Savannah from school early as she was not feeling well.  By the end of the day Emma wasn't feeling well either.  We decided to skip dance that night since only Olivia was feeling up to it and Scott was leaving for a business trip out of town.  We had just a lazy afternoon and evening and by Wednesday morning everyone seemed better, maybe a bit fussy but better.  I took them to school then headed to work for another busy day.  That night my mom joined us for the meet and greet at their new school, it was a stressful day since Emma came home complaining about her throat hurting and all the girls were just in terrible moods.  We made it through the open house and it seemed like the girls had a nice time but then as soon as we started to leave Emma complained again about her throat, I called the minute clinic but they were already closed.  It was a rough night trying to get them all ready for bed and I had to stay up late to finish all the teacher gifts and work on things for their birthday party at school.  Because they have a summer birthday the teachers let the students pick a day to celebrate, I wish we had gotten a day the week before because Scott had to miss this and it was just another added thing to worry about this week.

On Thursday morning I took them to school and didn't hear Emma complain about her throat so I was hoping it was better.  We arrived early so we could take some pictures but they didn't really want to cooperate as the sun was in their eyes, it was 8:50 am and not exactly a bright day.

Here is a better picture inside at the preschool.

I then ran around getting the supplies for the party and cupcakes that I had ordered.  I then went home and finished the little ‘frozen’ sticks for the cupcakes, grabbed my lunch and then headed back to eat lunch with the girls and do the party.

We stayed to play for just a bit but it was so hot we headed over to Emma’s speech a little early.  Today was also her last day of speech but we will have another speech meeting in June so we didn't have to say our final goodbyes yet.  On the way home Emma fell asleep I guess she still wasn't up to feeling her best.  We then got ready for ice skating, by this point I was so ready for Scott to come home.  No one wanted to cooperate and everyone was so whinny I was ready to just give up.  When we left for ice skating I woke Emma up to put her back in the van and for the next hour she cried, she wouldn't get her skates on but then when the class started she wanted to go so then I had to get her ready after already trying once.  After class I went through the drive through and bought us all salads for dinner.  I let them play outside for a few minutes and I finally got to sit down.   Scott got home that evening just as we were getting ready for bed.  I was so glad to have this day behind me, so like I said maybe I would have been sad for their last day of preschool but I was too tired to think about it.

Special Lunch

Today for lunch we took the girls to eat with the Easter Bunny.  We didn't tell them who we were eating with just that it was someone special, they guessed all kinds of people including Jesus, God, Nana and Paw-Paw, Grammy and Pepe, their cousins.  Savannah was finally the one to guess correctly, the Easter Bunny.

We had lunch catered by Zaxby's it was good and a lot of food.  Then we sang and the Easter bunny came in to see everyone.  We then stood in line to see him and get our pictures taken.  They all wanted to have a turn by themselves and everyone wanted to go first.  We let the boss that day, Savannah, go first and then the other two got a turn.  After the individual turns we had them all sit there together for a picture.

After the Easter bunny we got to make a little craft, a bunny mask.

What a fun lunch trip!
