The Dentist

The girls had their first trip to the dentist yesterday.  I was very surprised at how well they each did.  We had the whole office to ourselves so we all went back together.

Emma wanted to be first and she climbed right up onto the reclined chair.  They gave her little sunglasses to put on, it was cute.  She opened her mouth big for the dental hygenist.  Emma was a pro, nothing seemed to phase her and when she was done she picked out a wand as her prize.  Emma doesn't have any cavities, but she has a small defect on one of her bottom teeth.  I have never noticed it, it is just how it formed, its a little rounder and has faint white line in it.  The tooth is fine but we need to brush it good.

Olivia wanted to be next so they had her climb up in another chair and the dentist actually did her cleaning, after she got her sunglasses of course.  Olivia seemed a little nervous, and the dentist wasn't as friendly as the hygenist so she was a little hesitant.  She opened up well and I tried to show her what to do, and that helped her relax.  She picked out a bouncy ball for her prize.  Her teeth are good, no cavities for her either.

Emma and Olivia wanted to go back to the waiting room to play so I stayed with Savannah while she had her turn.  She climbed up on the chair and got her sunglasses and the hygenist cleaned her teeth.  She was very good, but pretty reserved, I don't think she said one word while we were there.  The dentist said her teeth had a differen make-up than Emma's and Olivia's and were a little more groovy meaning they would be more pron to cavities.  She also has a small chip on one of her front teeth, who knows how that happened.

I asked the dentist if he could tell they still had pacifiers.  He said he could tell, Emma's bite didn't seem affected much, Olivia's was a little, and Savannah's a little more.  He said it wasn't a big deal and that they could keep them for a while, he said they would grow out of them and when they did their teeth may actually correct a little.

So when I got them all in the van I made a decision, so I told them all that the Dentist had said they couldn't have their 'bs' (aka pacifiers) anymore.  They all looked at me and then looked at their pacifiers attached to their chairs.  I told them to give them to Katelin when they got home and they seemed to understand.

Nap time was a little off today, but I'm not sure that was entirely due to taking away their pacifiers.  They asked about them last night at bedtime but Savannah reminded everyone, 'the dentist said no bs'.  I really thought they would have cried for their bs and made more of a fuss than they have so far.
