They decided to deliever the babies yesterday when a blood test shows that Sarah's liver was not working well enough. If they did not deliever the babies soon it would start affecting Sarah's health. We were told that the babies were to be born at 5. At around 4:45 they took Sarah and I to the room. I was waiting in the recovery room where they would call me in after they did all of the prep work on Sarah. I then look up and here comes Sarah walking into the recovery room. The doctor had to go deliever another baby first that could not wait their turn. The other baby was being born naturally and ours were going to be born Cesarean so we were bumped. We waited for a few minutes which gave time for the anethesioligst to come talk to Sarah a bit more about what was going to happen. I think this helped Sarah stay a bit calm during this waiting. At around 5:15 the second doctor came in to get started. Within 5 minutes of that the primary doctor came in and they were ready to go. The doctor even mentioned that he had finished watching the video so he was good to go. At around 5:25 they called me into the room.
The room was a large room with Sarah in the middle. There were people everywhere. It was quite the party. In the room we were in there had to have been at least 10 people and in the adjoining room where the babies would be taken there had to have been an additional 15 people. They sat me next to Sarah at her head and I held her hand. She was shaking a little. It was cold in the room and she was nervous. I did my best to put her at ease. The anesthioligst did great helping me to keep Sarah as calm as possible. We sat their waiting and then we heard "It's a girl" then we heard one of the most amazingly sweet sounds I have ever heard when Emma gave her first cry. I hate to admit it, but I had tears of joy. The doctor handed Emma to a nurse into the towel she was holding where she then showed us the baby briefly around the curtain and then raced into the other room where the doctors and nurses quickly went to evaluating her condition. While they did that the doctor continued working. "It's a girl" and another sweet cry. Again we were shown the baby really briefly before it went to the next room. A yell again "It's a BOY" just kidding "It's a girl" and a final cry that was everybit as sweet as the first two.
In the room next door they cleaned up all the babies then they called me in to see them. They were all so cute and so content as they were wrapped up in the blankets. They ran each baby back into the room to see their mommy before they ran them all to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
After the babies were wheeled off they sent us to the recovery room. We waited there for hours as they worked to get Sarah's blood pressure and the pain of the operation under control. Once she was ready we went to the NICU with the two grandmothers, Steve, and Stephanie. The babies were doing GREAT. They were breathing room air. That means they are 34 week babies breathing on their own. The nurses and doctors are very pleased with how well they are doing. They are constantly monitoring the babies and their vitals. The babies are so cute. Sarah was able to hold Olivia for the first time. She was so happy to be able to hold one.
Here is a picture of Sarah holding Olivia.
Hi, you don't know me, but I wanted to say Congratulation on your beautiful girls! My husband Larry, is the Creative Pastor at Elevation, but I'm pretty sure your mom (at least I hope I'm right!) was my 2nd daughter, Lily's, teacher assistant at Waxhaw Elem. She told me you were having triplets, and kept me up to date over the year. I am really happy for you guys! Enjoy your little miracles!! Kelly
