6/23/09 Appts and Hospital Stay

On Monday I had my appt with my OBGYN, they did another fetal fibronectin test, which test for a protein that determines if I may go into labor in the next 2 weeks. This is my 3rd time taking the test. The last 2 times it came back negative, but this time it came back positive. This means there is a 50% chance I could go into labor in the next two weeks. Since I am now 30 weeks this is not really a suprise. The average for triplets is 32 weeks so to have the protein present isn't unusual at this stage.

To be safe they wanted me to go ahead and go to the hospital and have the steroid shots for the babies lungs just in case I do go into labor and they can't stop it in the next few weeks. I went Monday night for my first shot. It hurt pretty bad but went away fairly quickly and aftewards was at least less sore than a tetnus shot. They also monitored me for contractions and since I was having some they gave me a shot of terbutaline to stop the contractions. Right after the shot the contractions went away for the next 1 1/2 hrs so they sent me home.

On Tuesday I went back to the specialist and they measured my cervix, it had decreased slightly but not too bad, however, they were concerned I was having contractions so they sent me back to the hospital to get my second steriod shot for the babies and also be monitored for contractions. Unfortunately I was having some contractions so they wanted to keep me an monitor me overnight. They said they would probably keep me 24-48 hrs and maybe longer.

On Wednesday morning they decided that they didn't think my contractions were causing labor so they are actually going to send me home this afternoon, this is good news, sleeping in this bed was no fun. We are now a little better prepared for the hospital though and know what we need and don't need for next time. My next appt will be on Tuesday with the specialist so hopefully I can make it through this weekend.
